This extension was to a Listed 17^th century timber framed house on a moated site. It was built in highly insulated modern timber frame with a reinforced concrete raft foundation to allow it to be built close to the edge of the moat. The building drew on both the 17^th century origins of the existing house and later Arts and Crafts style additions. The barn-like structure with projecting stair tower presents a secure façade to the moat and forms a partial courtyard with the main house.
