This extension was to a Listed 17th century timber framed house on a moated site. It was built in highly insulated modern timber frame with a reinforced concrete raft foundation to allow it to be built close to the edge of the moat. The building drew on both the 17th century origins of the existing house and later Arts and Crafts style additions. The barn-like structure with projecting stair tower presents a secure façade to the moat and forms a partial courtyard with the main house.
