Nicholas Vanburgh is a small architectural design company specialising in historically inspired new buildings and conservation work to buildings of all periods pre-1950. Through our understanding and experience of traditional styles, materials and techniques, as well as the demands of modern Building Regulations and planning requirements, we aim to design and specify inspirational, cost effective and efficient buildings for our discerning clients.
Many of our projects are a combination of new-build extensions and refurbishment/conversion of existing historic (often Listed) properties from the 16th century to the present day. We work at all levels from the landscape/street-scape setting of a development to workshop drawings of furniture and fittings; and our involvement usually extends from the initial conceptual design, throughout the planning, Building Regulations, tender and construction phases.
We are based in East Anglia but work on projects throughout the UK. Please contact us for a free initial consultation.
The Managing Director and Principal Designer, Nicholas Jackson, has a first class degree in Civil and Structural Engineering and combines this with over 15 years study of historic houses, churches and gardens in the UK and abroad, by architects such as Smythson, Vanbrugh, Soane, Lutyens and Le Corbusier. He trained for 5 years with Charles Morris FRICS, a well known designer of country houses, and formed Nicholas Vanburgh Ltd. in 2006. He is a singer in his spare time and also enjoys stone carving, building, gardening and philosophy.
